An American bomber was able to level a city yesterday with just one strike thanks to new developments in bomb technology. Our military journalist reports…
American bomber Enola Gay piloted by American pilot Paul Tibbots Jr absolutely destroyed the city of Hiroshima in the Chugoku region of Japan yesterday August 6 1945 at 8:15am.This was a coordinated attack as part of the ongoing war between the Allied and Axis powers. Throughout the war both sides have been trying to improve their artillery and bombs. In the US some scientists grouped together to try and invent a new type of bomb called an atom bomb that would supposedly cause mass destruction. They called their group the Manhattan Project. It was very difficult to build though. After several years and around 2 billion dollars it was finally done. The bomb was nicknamed Little boy even though it was anything but. Before it was dropped however it had to be tested. So they loaded up into trucks and drove out into the New Mexico desert. There they constructed concrete bunkers in preparation for their test.Even though they were a mile away they still got a big hit from the bomb going off.The explosion was recorded to be about as strong as 37 million sticks of dynamite. It turns out the steel tower used for holding the bomb was completely vaporized due to the heat aswell. Now that they had a bomb they needed to pick somewhere in Japan to drop it.The reason they chose Hiroshima was because of two reasons. The first was that it was a relatively flat city so they could see the full damage of the bomb and the second was that they hadn’t done too much damage to Hiroshima during the rest of the war so that when they invented the atomic bomb they could drop it there and see the full amount of damage it had caused.Even after the devastating effects the bomb had on Hiroshima, Japan still hasn’t surrendered so it is expected there will be another attack. We leave you with a quote from the head scientist of the Manhattan Project,Robert Oppenheiner:”I did not expect the impact the bomb would and I deeply regret ever building this devastating machine.”

Absolutely fantastic report Hamish. You were very articulate in how you put it all together.
