Nuclear Energy

An atom is something that can be touched physically. Everything in the universe (except energy) has atoms, and, so, everything in the universe is made of atoms.

An atom itself is made up of three tiny kinds of particles called protons, neutrons, and electrons. The protons and the neutrons make up the center of the atom called the nucleus and the electrons fly around above the nucleus in a small cloud.

Splitting the atom releases a huge amount of energy. It is an extremely difficult process to do this. An atomic bomb involves splitting atoms.

The easiest material to split the atom of is uranium

It is mined in these countries with Kazakhstan the biggest producer.

This is the raw material uranium. A process takes place to get Uranium -235 out of this raw material.

It is an extremely difficult and expensive process getting Uranium -235 out of uranium. The Uranium-235 is turned into pellets.

When you spilt the atom of uranium it causes a chain reaction releasing a hug amount of energy.

This is how an atomic bomb works. This is how nuclear power plants work.
