Christy Brown was born into a working-class Irish family in Dublin in June 1932. His parents were Bridget Fagan and Patrick Brown. He had 22 siblings. Out of these 22, 13 lived and 9 died in infancy. After his birth, doctors discovered that he had severe cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture.  Cerebral means having to do with the brainPalsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles.

Brown’s parents were determined to raise him at home with their other children. During Brown’s adolescence, social worker Katriona Delahunt began to visit the Brown family regularly, while bringing Christy books and painting materials as, over the years, he had shown a keen interest in the arts and literature. Christy had learned to both write and draw himself, with the only limb over which he had control: his left leg.

Brown quickly matured into a serious artist. Although Brown famously received almost no formal schooling during his youth, he did attend St Brendan’s School intermittently. At St Brendan’s he came in contact with Robert Collis, a noted author. Collis discovered that Brown was also a natural novelist and he helped Christy to publish My Left Foot, an autobiographical account of Brown’s struggle with everyday life in Dublin.

Offaly supporters

It is August 1998, the final whistle of the 1998 All Ireland hurling semi final between Clare and Offaly has just blown. Clare won the game by 3 points but referee Jimmy Cooney from Galway had blown the whistle 3 minutes early. The Offaly fans came on the field and began a protest. Offaly got a replay the following weekend, they won it and went on to win the All Ireland final a few weeks later.

I took this picture off my television screen yesterday. It happened at the Gateshead Diamond League meet in England a few days ago. It’s the best sports moment I’ve seen in years, and it crystallizes something I think that we as coaches are in a unique position to teach. The guy about to vault is Sam Kendricks, the men’s 2017 World Championships gold medalist and American Record holder. The guy holding the umbrella is Mondo Duplantis, the men’s World Record holder, who was raised in the U.S. but competes for Sweden (his mother is Swedish). They are, without question, the two best male pole vaulters on the planet at the moment. They compete for different professional sponsors and different countries. It was 10° and raining during the meet. At the moment captured in this picture, they were both attempting the same height, yet Mondo, the world record holder, was holding the umbrella for his biggest competitor. It’s a moment of humility, character, and friendship between the two best athletes on Earth at their discipline in the middle of a professional competition at the very highest level. In such a meet, world rankings, bonus money, sponsorship deals, and their very livelihoods are at stake. Yet, there was Mondo, keeping his biggest athletic rival out of the cold rain so he could focus on his next jump.

German territory before D Day June 1944

Since 1940 Germany had occupied France and all of Wesyern Europe. Operation Overlord was the codename for the Battle of Normandy. The operation was launched on 6 June 1944 with the Normandy landings. Before the soldiers landed in France 1,200-planes  dropped bombs in the area hoping the reduce German firepower.  Then 5,000 vessels landed on the beaches of Normandy. Nearly 160,000 troops crossed the English Channel on 6 June, and more than two million Allied troops were in France by the end of August.

Look at how the German territory changed from June 1944

Before the Transatlantic Cable, it took 10 days for a message from America to be brought to Europe. It had to be brought by ship. With the Transatlantic Cable messages could be transferred in a matter of minutes.

The Transatlantic cable coming ashore at Valentia Island, Co. Kerry.

Prior to the laying of the Transatlantic Cable it took approximately two weeks from a message to reach North America from Europe as all communications were sent via boat.

The First Cable
The manufacture of the cable started in early 1857 and was completed in June. Before the end of July it was stowed on 2 ships. They started at Valentia in Ireland on 5 August. For the first few days, everything went well but six days later, due to a mistake the cable snapped. Just 380 miles had been laid.

The ships were forced to return to port. The second attempt began on 25 June 1858. This time the same two ships met each other in mid-Atlantic where they joined their respective ends. The cable broke almost immediately. Again the two ships made another splice: this time they managed 40 miles before it broke again. The fourth time they had laid 146 miles before the cable was lost yet again. It was clear that this was not going to be easy! The two ships returned to Ireland but it was decided that, despite the loss of a considerable amount of cable, they still had enough for a further attempt. On 29 July they made their fifth attempt, again starting from the mid-point. This time it worked! On 5 August 1858 both ships reached their destinations – Valentia Harbour in Ireland and Trinity Bay in Newfoundland. The two continents were joined.

On 16 August communication was established with the message “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, good will to men.” Unfortunately the engineer in charge, Wildman Whitehouse, started by applying very high voltages rather than the very weak currents that had been tested during the cable laying. Within three weeks the damage inflicted on the cable by the high voltages was becoming apparent and it ceased to work.

The Second Cable
It took several years before another attempt was made. This time a single ship was chartered, the enormous Great Eastern, by far the largest ship of its day. She started from Valencia at the end of July 1865 and succeeded in laying 1,200 miles before the cable snapped. Several attempts were made to retrieve the broken end but they all failed.

Third Time Lucky
After so many failed attempts, the final, successful, cable was laid with virtually no problems. On 27 July 1866, the cable was pulled ashore at a tiny fishing village in Newfoundland. The distance was 1686 nautical miles Valentia Island. The Great Eastern had averaged 120 miles a day while paying out the cable. The first message sent on this, finally successful, cable was: “A treaty of peace has been signed between Austria and Prussia”. Queen Victoria sent a message to the President of the United States. “The Queen congratulates the President on the successful completion of an undertaking which she hopes may serve as an additional bond of Union between the United States and England.”

Almost immediately, the cable opened for business but only the very wealthy could afford it – the initial rates were a startling $1 a letter, payable in gold – at a time that a monthly wage for a labourer might be $20.

Completed in 2017, MAREA is a joint project between Microsoft, Facebook, and Telxius that connects Virginia Beach in the US and Bilbao in Spain via 4,125 mile fiber-optic cable under the Atlantic Ocean

The Norwich Computer, 1957

The City of Norwich were pioneers in the application of computer technology to the work of UK local authorities. In 1954 Norwich began looking for an electronic system to handle its payroll. They began discussions with Elliott Brothers of London in 1955, and the City Council ordered the first Elliott 405 computer from them in January 1956. It was delivered to Norwich City Hall in February 1957. The event was celebrated by a demonstration of the machine in front of the Lord Mayor of Norwich and the press in April 1957.

Roman Milestone
Roman Road Network

Roads were built with a crown to allow drainage

The Roman Road Network allowed the Romans to march their army to any location in 10 days.

They were expertly engineered.

Roman builders used whatever materials were at hand to construct their roads. The bottom section of the road was usually made with small stones. This was followed by foundation layers of crushed rocks. Finally, the surface layer was constructed using neatly arranged blocks. Roads were built with a crown and adjacent ditches to ensure easy water drainage.

These statues are from Easter island. Easter Island is off the coast of Chile. There are 900 of these statues on the island. They were carved out of a single piece of rock. There has been huge debate about how the islanders moved these statues to their final location. Many say that they rolled them on tree trunks, others say that they walked the statues using ropes.

Easter Island got its name when a Dutch explorer sailing in the Pacific Ocean discovered the island on Eater Sunday in 1722.

This is a photo from WWI. It is July 1st 1916 a few hours into the Battle of the Somme and a group of Irish soldiers take a break from the fighting.

The Battle of the Somme was a battle of the First World War fought by the armies of the British Empire and France against the German Empire. It took place between 1 July and 18 November 1916 on both sides of the upper reaches of the Somme, a river in France. More than three million men fought in the battle and one million men were wounded or killed, making it one of the deadliest battles in human history.

6 bombs were dropped in Dublin during WWII. The first 2 bombs were dropped in South Dublin near Terenure on the 2nd & 3rd of January 1941. Then on the 31st of May 1941, 4 bombs were dropped in North Dublin with one of these bombs damaging Arás an Uachtaráin.

Why was Dublin bombed if Ireland was neutral

Irish airspace had been violated repeatedly, and both Allied and German airmen were being interned at the Curragh. A possible cause was a navigational error. Numerous large cities in the United Kingdom were targeted for bombing, including Belfast, which like Dublin, is across the Irish Sea from Great Britain. Germany apologised for the bombs and a payment of compensation tell us that the cause was a navigation error on the part of the German pilots.

Another possible reason for the Dublin bombings was that Germany had launched the Belfast blitz, which resulted in Belfast (part of the United Kingdom) being heavily bombed. In response, Ireland sent rescue, fire, and emergency personnel to Belfast to assist the city. De Valera formally protested the bombing to the German government, as well as making his famous “they are our people” speech. Some have contended that the raid served as a warning to Ireland to keep out of the war.

This is called a Mortsafe. They were used over 200 years ago and they are found in Scotland. In order to learn about the human body and improve their work, surgeons needed to work on dead bodies. However the law said they could only dissect the bodies of convicted murderers. This meant they had access to 40 or so bodies per year. More was needed. The problem was then that people would break into graveyards, steal dead bodies and sell them to surgeons. The mortsafe was invented to keep dead bodies safe.

Sonia O’Sullivan winning silver at Sydney 2000 Olympics. Possibly Ireland’s greatest ever athlete.

Ireland have only ever won 3 Olympic medals on the track.

Ronnie Delaney 1956 Olympics Melbourne (1500m)
John Treacy 1984 Olympics LA (marathon)
Sonia O’Sullivan 2000 Sydney (5000m)

In 1993, Sonia is the world’s greatest middle distance athlete. She is undefeated before the 1993 World Championships in Stuggart Germany. But out of the blue 3 Chinese athletes denied her a medal in the 3000m race.

She didn’t let this get her down and in the 1500m, she got a silver medal behind the Chinese athlete. It was a really controversial World Championship as there was doping suspicions around the Chinese athletes.

Sonia dominated athletics in 1994 and 1995 and she dominated the World Championships in Gothenberg, Sweden in 1995.

https://youtu.be/GC__KsZDiZk?t=742

The Olympics in 1996 had arrived, once again Sonia dominated every race coming up to the Olympics. She once again was the athlete to beat. In her semi final she dominated the field.

The whole of Ireland expected Sonia not just to win a medal but to win Gold. The whole of Ireland stayed up late to watch Sonia’s race.

Sonia picked up a bug before the race and she was unable to finish. It was heart breaking for her. But she continued her training running over 100 miles per week. There would be another Olympics in 4 years time (2000) in Sydney.

Sonia finally and deservedly won her Olympic medal at Sydney 2000. She possibly deserved many more Olympic medals.

Her attitude was that she always did her best every day she raced, some days that meant winning races, other days not. No one could ever doubt her effort and her amazing talent.

8m 13cm
8m 90cm
8m 90cm

This amazing story starts in 1968 with a jump called the ‘Leap of the Century’. At the 1968 Olympic games in Mexico, Bob Beamon jumped 8m 90cm. Many thought this jump would not be broken for 100 years, it was so good.

Bob jumped so far he did not find out how far he jumped for 15 mins as the equipment did not measure that far. Americans use feet and inches to measure and when the distance of 8m 90cm was shown on the screen he still didn’t know how far he jumped.

Seeing that we are studying length in Maths this week, we are going to look at the long jump. Can you find out who this incredible athlete is? Where and when was this photo taken? Why is this a famous photo?

Can you tell us some long jump rules?

Long Jump Board
Wind Gauge must be less than 2meters per second to be counted as a world record.

In order to make a long jump world record, the wind behind you must be less than 2 meters per second.

Experts said Bob Beamon’s long jump world record would not be broken for 100 years. Imagine then, 2 people breaking the record 5 minutes apart.

Introducing Carl Lewis (he matched Jesse Owens record in the 1984 Olympics – 4 medals). Carl lewis was the favorite to win the long jump at the World Championships in Tokyo. He had won 65 long jump competitions in a row.

Carl Lewis 1991 World Championships. Before the championship Carl had won 65 long jump competitions in a row.
Mike Powell Tokyo 1991 World Championships

Remember Bob Beamon’s record of 8m 90cm.

In Tokyo Carl Lewis jumps 8m 91cm breaking the world record, however it is wind assisted( it won’t count as a world record). This jump is still valid for this competition though.

No other human has ever jumped this distance, you would think he has definitely won this competition but along come Mike Powell.

This is US athlete Jesse Owens at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. He became the 1st athlete to win 4 gold medals at a single Olympics. It was an amazing achievement. The Americans almost boycotted the games because of Hitler and his policies.

Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima (February 1945) is a photograph of six United States soldiers raising the U.S. flag on top of Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima.  It is one of the most significant and recognizable images of World War II.

On February 19, 1945, the United States invaded Iwo Jima as part of its island-hopping strategy to defeat Japan.

Iwo Jima is located halfway between Japan and the Mariana Islands, where American long-range bombers were based, and was used by the Japanese as an early warning station, radioing warnings of incoming American bombers to the Japanese homeland.

The Americans, after capturing the island, weakened the Japanese early warning system, and used it as an emergency landing strip for damaged bombers.[5]

This is the photo of a funeral in Blessington in April 1941. You can see the army and you can see the Union Jack Flag.

A bomber aircraft crashed on the hills near Blessington killing 4 young men. Kenneth Hill, the pilot, from Croydon, at just 23 was the oldest member of the crew, the navigator Jack Lamb and two air gunners both from Old Trafford, Stanley Wright and Fred Erdwin.

On the night of 17 April 1941 their squadron was assigned to a bombing mission on Berlin. At an early stage in the war this was a risky long range flight deep into Germany in an aircraft with minimal navigation equipment. They took off from their base in Yorkshire at 2030 hours. The weather was poor with almost complete cloud cover across the North Sea.

It is not known whether Kenneth Hill and his crew reached their target. The next that was heard from them was when they were picked up by a signal station in Norfolk at 0217 requesting a position fix. They had clearly returned across the North Sea but for some reason they did not respond but continued flying west across the breadth of England.

They continued over the Welsh mountains and across the Irish Sea. They had overflown by more than 100 miles and still their aircraft continued west. It is perhaps hard to imagine an aircrew flying that far astray. But who knows what was going in the final phase of the doomed flight? Was the pilot incapacitated? Did they have hypothermia or fatigue? Or maybe it was a combination of fear, poor training and deficient equipment that set them off course?

However there was no such rescue for Kenneth Hill and his crew as their bomber droned west across the Irish Sea. Their aircraft was recorded over Dublin just after 0400. A Garda in a Kildare station logged the aircraft overhead at 0418. The plane then made a U-turn which took it back east over mid Kildare.

The Garda station at Hollywood south of Blessington logged it overhead at 0432. And then nothing more was heard or seen of the plane until two days later when turf cutters on Blackhill above Ballyknockan came on bodies and wreckage.

The plane probably ran out of fuel after over eight hours in the air — plunged into the slopes which faced west over the filling Blessington lake.

The Irish Government approved a funeral with military honours. The crew’s coffins were taken down the street in Blessington by Irish soldiers while an Army band played the Funeral March. The funeral took place in the St. Mary’s.

They were then buried in the adjoining graveyard where their graves are marked by Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstones. They have not been forgotten in Blessington. Family members of the men have visited the graves in subsequent years.

This is the Antarctic Snow Cruiser. It cost $300,000 (5 million today) to build. From the moment it arrived in the Antarctic (1940) it faced problems, it slipped off the ramp coming off the ship. When it finally drove onto the snow it sunk 3 foot into the snow. It was designed with smooth tires so snow wouldn’t gather but this also meant there was no traction.

They had some success driving it backwards and in total it travelled about 100km in the Antarctic. It was abandoned later in 1940 because funding stopped due to WWII.

It became covered in snow but it was later found in 1946 as they had attached a bamboo stick. They dug it out and got it working but abandoned it again. It was last seen in 1958 but has been covered in snow since. The ice shelf it was on may have broke and it may be in an iceberg floating in the sea now.

In 1959 Volvo invented the Three-Point seat belt. They also gave a free licence to all other car manufacturers to use.

3 point versus 2 point safety belt

Although the 2 point safety belt stops passengers going through the windscreen, the 3 point safety belt spreads the pressure and stops the upper body going forward.

Although Volvo offered all car companied their idea, not all companies took them up on it.

Some car companies used to charge customers more if they wanted a seat belt.

In 1968, it became law to put seat belts on the front seats of all cars.

In Ireland, drivers didn’t have to wear seatbelts until 1979, then it became law and police could stop you.

In 1992, car companies had to put seat belts in the back seats of cars.

Japan is famous for its Train Pushers known as Oshiya. The photo above is from the 1960’s.

Whatever a train driver in Japan does, they confirm their actions with the help of physical movements combined with vocalization. For example, when the train driver needs to confirm that the speed of the train is 80 mph, they point at the speedometer with their index finger and say that the speed is now 80 mph.

So how does the combination of gestures and words make our actions more accurate? Physical movements and vocal commands combined increase the blood flow in certain areas of the brain, making us more involved and more attentive. Studies prove that pointing at an object, stating your action, and confirming it once again by hearing your own voice is much more efficient than simply looking at the object or thinking about the action.

This safety system turned out to be quite efficient and it can reduce errors at work by up to 85%.

They are known as Radar Ears. After WWI which was mainly fought on the ground, wars suddenly took to the air and bomber and fighter planes were a regular sight. Binoculars were used to spot enemy planes but binoculars were of no use at night and in bad weather so Radar Ears were invented. By the 1930’s Radar had been invented and they soon became obsolete. The photo is from the streets of New York in the late 1890’s. There was a 100,000 horses on the streets of New York then bringing people around the city. Horse manure was a major problem and they used to bring the manure to a nearby island everyday. They didn’t know what to do as the horses coming into the city increased every day. Then the problem was solved all of a sudden, not because they had a brilliant solution but because the motor car was invented. Hence, there was no need for horses to pull carriages anymore.

I think this is the first bombing in Ireland by the German embassy on the 2nd day of January 1941 in the morning it was dropped near the area of Terenure there was more bombs following that date including one on the Áras an Uhctaran (sorry if i got the word wrong) + other bombs on other locations near Dublin

  13. Julianne

We looked it up and now we know that in May 1941 – 70 years ago – 4 German bombs fell in North Dublin and 28 people died and 90 were injured.

  14. kyle

This is a Mortsafe it was designed for graves to not be disturbed I highly doubt they still use these now. . Resurrectionists are people that snatch bodies to carry out medical studies on them so mortsafes were invented so that they could no longer dig them up.

    Fantastic research Kyle.

  15. Julianne

Is it a cage to protect grave of someone famous?

  16. Sophie

I think the women is the first girl to do a marathon and win it too. I think the man so cross that she won it so he pushed her.

  17. Julianne

I think the man is trying to take the woman out of the race. Maybe he thought a woman should not race in this race. I looked this up and found out that this was 1967 in the Boston Marathon and women were not allowed run in it. This woman Katherine Switzer did it to show that women could finish a marathon.

This looks like the back of a laptop

  19. Julianne

Is it a rocket going through the cloud

  20. Julianne

This is Sonia O’Sullivan from Cork she won a silver medal in the 5000m 2000 Olympics in Sydney Australia. She look s very fit and happy.

  21. Carla Murphy

I think it’s in the olympics and the womans name is Sonia O’sullivan. I think she is feeling so good and really happy with herself. I think she just won a important race? I’m not really sure

  22. Julianne

This is Mike Powell. He is a world record holder for the Long Jump. He jumped 8.95m in 1991 in Toyko.
Wow that is a long jump!

  23. kyle

Mike Powell 1991 long jump world record he bet Bob Beamon’s 8.90 meters that had not been bet in 23yrs

  24. kyle

This is Jesse Owens (Cleveland) he won 4 Olympic medals. This is in Berlin in 1936. In 1936 he won 100 meters, long jump and 4 100 meter relay. Jesse was a black man and earlier in school some of us said the guy at the back was doing a Hitler salute and the reason why is because Jesse was said to break Hitlers myth of Aryan supremacy. “Aryan supremacy is a ideology of racial supremacy which views the supposed Aryan race as a distinct and superior racial group entitled to rule the rest of humanity” that is what i got from my research.

    **Super research Kyle.

  25. Isabella Harte

I think this is Iwo Jima and America defeated the Japanese for the island in WW2.They then hoisted the American flag to show off the victory

  26. Lewis Toolis

They are soldiers raising a flag in Iwo Jima Japan. The people raising the flag are Ira Hayes Harold schlutlz Micheal Strank Franklin Sousley Harold Keller and Harlon Block. 2 or 3 of these men are still alive today amazingly

  27. Julianne

I think the mothers are putting the prams on the front of the bus as they would not all fit in the bus?
I search where Opawa is and its in New Zealand.
I think it is in 1950

  28. Niamh😊

I think before you get on the bus you put your buggy on the back of the bus. I don’t know where or when.

  29. Julianne

I think it is Blessington. It is the funeral of the people who died in the plane crash on Blackhill Lacken in April 1941. The Irish Army were at the funeral.

  30. Julianne

I think the girls are carrying blocks of ice. It is important to keep food from going off as they didn’t have fridges. I think it is America in the 1920s.

  31. Carla

I think it might be some sort of caravan because the structure looks like a caravan but the wheels look too big for one so maybe it was the first one in the world? I also noticed there was an American flag its from maybe 1940s

  32. Anonymous

    i have no clue

    aoife

  33. Wayne Nolan

I think a new president as been elected. The year is 1950 the people are happy and excited

  34. kyle

This is an Antartic snow cruiser it is 1939 and it is America.

** Brilliant Kyle. How did you know this?

  35. kyle

    They also look like Chevys

  36. kyle

Maybe this is a antique toy car collection or they are trying to sculpt a real life car but they are using toy car models i think it is 1960s somewhere about that

  37. Julianne

I think it is mini cars maybe at a factory or at a competition. I think it is the 1970s.

  38. Amy

I think they are looking at all these cars because it would give them ideas for a new look for a car.
    I think this is amarica.
I think the year is 1978.

  39. Lucas

I think it is a ad for cars and those are models for what colour you can pick

  40. Julianne

This car was made in Cork and it is sad because the factory that made them closed and people lost their jobs.

  41. Wayne Nolan

When Ford stoped making cars in Ireland. Lots of people lost jobs

  42. Amy

I think its a sad moment because its was there very first car of the car.

  43. Carla

I think that it’s a type of car the Ford and it’s not gonna be around or maybe it’s not gonna be in Ireland anymore that’s my guess.

  44. kyle

This is a sad day in the picture for Cork as the first ever Ford factory in Europe closed down and that’s whit was in Cork because Henry Ford’s Dad is from William Ford. I think the car is in the photo because it was the first manufactured in Ireland in 1982 the company invested 10 million into making the plant suitable for making Ford Sierra

**Brilliant research Kyle. You’re spot on.

  45. Lucas

It is American football with the man scoring a touchdown in San Francisco

  46. Amy

    The sport is amarican football.
I think the team is france or sweedan.

  47. Lucy Benton

I know this sport is called American Football, which is like rugby kinda.
The final game in a league is called the Superbowl so maybe this photo is taken at one of those games?

  48. Carla

The sport is amarican foot ball and I don’t know what year its from or the team.

  49. Julianne

It is the Beatles in 1969 in London

  50. Lucy Benton

Why is this a famous photo? Guess the year and the location? It is the Beatles last live performance on top of there studio in London 1969. We watched a documentary on the tv last week about it.

  51. kyle

I think this is the Beatles as the person holding the white guitar looks like John Lenon maybe this is 1971 this is famous and after like 30minutes the police told them to be quite

  52. Amy

    The band is the beetels.
    The year is 1969.
Its famouse because it was the very first concert on a rooftop.
The locaion is England in London.

  53. Carla Murphy

I think it’s a hand and they are playing on a roof I think its from the 1970s.

  54. Anonymous

I think it is in the year 2004 and I think it is was an old concert in not to sure to be honest

    Aoife Kinsella

  55. Wayne Nolan

I think this is a famous band like U2. I think it is 1990 in Dublin or the UK

  56. Julianne

I think the man is reading or learning something and I think his hair is tied to the wall to stop him falling asleep, maybe it is boring! I think it might be before electricity because of the lamp, maybe over 100 years ago. I think it is a hot country because the man has no top on. Maybe India.

  57. Wayne Nolan

I think its something to keep his hair out of his way Because he his reading or writing. I think it is 1950 in India

  58. kyle

Maybe he is trying to dry his hair in college or University and he needs do his work.

  59. Amy

i think it was a way to keep your hair out of your eyes while doing work or something.
I think its in the 1700s.
I think the countrey is Amaraca

  60. Isabella

I think it was an invention to help girls or boys when doing work to keep their hair out of their face I think it was in the 1970s.

  61. Lucy Benton

What is happening in this photo? What year do you think it is and what country?
I am not sure what is going on, it is very strange that the door is locked, the back of the chair is gone and his hair is tied up with a nail on the wall . I think the country is India. I think it was taken in 1940’s.

  62. Anonymous

I think that is how they did detention years ago they tied their hair in that rope so if they tried to leave their would be pulled

    Aoife Kinsella

  63. Carla

I think it’s in India and the invention puts hair out of your face I thought it was India because of how he was dressed if it’s not India it’s somewhere really hot neck he isn’t wearing a shirt.

  64. Julianne

It is the making of the movie Back to the future. 1985. I haven’t seen it yet but my dad said it’s his favourite movie. I watched a small part of the car and train scene on utube tonight. It looks like a good movie.

  65. Lucas

It is a scence in back to the future III and I have no idea what is happening in the scene

  66. Isabella

I think that they are a movie and they are using small things to make it more realistic.
I think it was in 1985 and the movie is Back To The Future.

  67. Amy

I think its some kind of fight i think the year is 1956

  68. Kylekinane

I think This is the movie Back to the future the movie with Michael.j fox
We’re Doc and Marty Micfly go back to the FUTURE.

  69. Lucy Benton

What is going in this photo? Can you guess the year?
I think it is a film set because the camera man is filming an action scene using small trains and cars. I think the film might be back to the future as I watched it a while ago and I remember a train crashing into a car. If this is the film it is from when my parents were kids a long time ago in the 1980’s.

  70. Wayne Nolan

I think that is from the movie back to the future. And it is 1986

  71. Carla Murphy

I think that they are in a car and filming a movie and someone will drive the car slow and they the guy on top will film it and it will make the train look big and fast! It’s from around 1970s.

  72. Julianne

Maybe they are archaeologists in Egypt at the pyramids but they look at bit too clean wearing white, they look more like bakers! Maybe 1940s?

  73. Amy

i think its in aisa or something. i think the year is 1979. And i think its famouse because maybe they are escapping from something i dont know

  74. Anonymous

    Aoife Kinsella

  75. Lucy Benton

I think that the two men work in a mine and the mine collapsed and they were the last two people to live .

  76. Carla Murphy

I am really stuck on this one but I think they are archeologists and its from 1982 that’s all I have to say.

  77. Wayne Nolan

I think it is Egypt because of the drawings on the wall. These men are Archaeologists. 1960. It it famous because they found something very old.

  78. Julianne

I think it was the safety belt. When my mammy was young there were no safety belts in the back of cars and she and all her sisters and brother (5) would sit in the back with no child car seats either!
Maybe the car is a Volvo as they are very safe?

**Brilliant answer Julianne. Yes it is a Volvo car as they are the safest cars in the world.
    cars.

  79. kyle

This advertisement is for a seat belt the company that created the seat belt is Volvo, I would think America because they are very popular over there.

  80. Wayne Nolan

I think it is the seat belt. I think the company is Ford

  81. Lucas

The thing that was invented was the seatbelt and the car might be Volkswagen

  82. Amy

I think its an air bag that they envented. I dont know what car company.

  83. Tia Martin

They have just invented the seatbelt and the car company is Volvo.

  84. Anonymous

i think that is when they invented seat belts my mam said that when she was younger she didn’t have to wear one i think it was the year 1988 im not to shure what year it was that was just a guess
    Aoife

  85. Carla

I’m not sure what type of car it is but the invention is the seatbelt!

  86. Amy

i thinks its in new york and its a bettel

  87. Lucy Benton

I think it is the factory carpark where the Beatle car is made. I think it might be in Germany as that is where this car was first made. The car looks like a little beatle so thats why they called it this name I think. I think it might be about 50 years ago when this photo was taken as there are so many cars there.

  88. Wayne Nolan

I think it is Germany. I think the car is a beetle. it is famos movie herbie

  89. Julianne

maybe it is Germany where this Beetle car was made. it was made from 1938-2003 but this photo could be from the 1970s?

**Excellent Julianne. The Beetle is a German car and they began making it in the 1930’s. This photo is taken in the 1970’s. I will reveal more about the photo in tomorrow’s Zoom.

  90. Lucas

It was in Mexico or south America I think the cars are called Volkswagen beetles or bugs and they were the best selling car ever my dad when he was small watched Disney movies about Herbie the bug who had a mind of his own

**Super Lucas. It may be the best selling car ever, the Toyota Corolla is also a really good selling car. I’m not sure which of them has the top spot though.

  91. Aoife

im not shure maybe they wore the first cars to be selt in a country
im not to shure what country it is though
    Aoife kinsella

**Thanks for your comment Aoife. It could be the first cars sold in this country, it definitely is a popular car looking at how many there is.

  92. kyle

This is a Volkswagen Beetle It is in Germany I don’t really know why its famous maybe because people liked the cars they were made by a good brand and they feature in the movies Herby.

  93. Carla Murphy

I think the car is call a VW Beetle I also think its in a factory its from 1970s this was a really good time for those types of car the were very popular back then and also to this day!

  94. Kylekinane

I think a bomb has just gone through a city and totally destroyed it and not much people died because they were in shelters and they had air raid sirens

  95. Wayne Nolan

I think it is Poland after just getting bombed in 1942

  96. Lucas

It is Hiroshima after the 1945 atom bomb the bomb was called little boy( ironic since it was the second largest atom bomb ever) my dad told me about a peace memorial-we think it is the dome in the lower right corner.

*Super Lucas. You are correct and that is the dome in the lower right corner. It is amazing that the dome survived the blast. Because the bomb exploded directly above it stayed standing.
We will be having a brainbuilder about it very soon.

  97. Amy

I the city is Peace Memorial Park. I think its in 1956. I think it was bombed or something like that

**Peace Memorial Park, where do you think that is? Bombed is a really good guess, but why was it bombed?

  98. Carla

I’m not sure what happend at first I thought there was an earthquake but I looked closely and see that there were not broken buildings I think its from maybe 1995 that’s all my guesses.

**An earthquake is a good guess but not correct. You are correct, there seems to be no broken building but perhaps the broken building have been removed.

  99. kyle

I think it is 1941 when there was war

  100. kyle

I think it is a lady getting married in the middle of a war

  101. Anonymous

I THINK THERE WAS AN EARTHQUAKE I ACTULLY DO NOT KNOW

  102. Lucy Benton

What is happening here? Where is it and what is the year?
I think this is a house after earthquake and a bride is getting marred

  103. Lucas

I think it is a bride on her wedding day during the war

  104. Wayne Nolan

I think a girl is getting married during the war i think this because all the windows are smashed and the roof is on the ground. I think it is England. I think it is 1941.

**Very good Wayne. You’re spot on.

  105. Amy

I think this is in 1898 and the girl is getting married and running out of her house with her dad.

  106. Amy

i think its about 70 years old and is used for drying paintings

  107. Carla

I think that people were getting married and a bomb hit their house and this photo was taken at world war two!

  108. Luke

It’s about 300 years old and it was used in a libraries to put books on or to have newspapers on it.

  109. Julianne

I thinks it’s in a library maybe for reading pages of a newspaper or magazines long ago

  110. Kylekinane

I think it is for reading different books every time it spins

  111. Lucas

It is a thing for books you would put books on it and then spin it witch ever book is facing you,you read it

  112. Isabella Harte

I think in the 50s a Mayor would use it in a fancy library for holding expensive books.

  113. Carla

I think that it’s for displaying books then the wheel moves slowly like a Ferris wheel and it’s form around 1984.

**Very good Carla, it does display several books, who do you think would have used it?

  114. Wayne Nolan

I think it is fifty years old. I think it holds paper.

**Good Wayne, it has something to do with paper but what would that be?

  115. Lucy Benton

How old is this and what was it used for?

As the picture looks like it is in a library I think this was used to dry out books or paintings as it has trays and a spinning wheel. I think it is from 1900 before photo copiers were made.

**Excellent Lucy, it is to do with books but not to dry them them out.

  116. Luke

It is called a morrison shelter that people would sleep in to protect themselves from bombs during the world war 2.

  117. Anonymous

    i have no idea
    aoife kinsella

  118. kyle

i agree with Lewis and there is bunkers to protect people that do have a garden they are probably if you didn’t have one.

  119. Tia Martin

The cage was to protect people from bombs in 1940. It was for people who didn’t have a garden.

  120. Lucas

It is a shelter for war times

  121. Lewis Toolis

the cage was to protect people from bombers in 1940 to 1945 half a million were sold it was for people who didnt have a gardern

**Good Lewis. Try to send me on your 80’s song today for Friday’s Dance Party.

  122. Carla

I think the cage is for protection from maybe bears and dogs? I think it was taken a hundred years ago?

**Good Carla, it would work to protect from bears and dogs but that isn’t the reason for them sleeping in it.

  123. Isabella Harte

I think it was in the 70s and they are sleeping in a cage to keep safe from animals or robbers.

**Good Isabella, it would work to protect from animals or robbers but that isn’t the reason for them sleeping in it.

  124. Niamh💙

It is in a house, it was in 1972 and they were sleeping in the cage because idk

  125. Julianne

I think it is the 50s or 60s the people might be sleeping in cage to keep safe from a animal?

  126. Julianne

It is Roy Keane when he was a teenager playing for Cork City.

  127. Wayne

I think it is Roy Keane, my dads favourite footballer. It is in cork. I think he is around 15 years old 1986

  128. Kyle Kinane

I think the same as wayne it’s Roy Keane and it looks like he is wearing a cork jersey which is we’re he is from.

  129. Anonymous

IM NOT AS SURE AS ALL THE OTHER ONES
    AOIFE KINSELLA

  130. Carla

I’m not sure, but I think they are playing football and maybe somewhere in Ireland. I don’t know who the famous footballer is.

  131. Lucas

It is Roy keane taken in cork aged 10 when he first started to play football in cork. My dad and brother met him a couple of years ago.

**Excellent Lucas. What did your Dad and brother think of him?

  132. Luke

It is Roy Keane in the photo in 1986 and it is in Cork.

**I don’t believe it, I thought I would catch you out today.

  133. Julianne

I think it is the Netherlands with its windmills and people are skating on the frozen water.

  134. Kyle Kinane

1 I think they are cooling the ice so it will not melt so they can skate

  135. Wayne Nolan

I think it is Holland. I think there is so many windmills because they produce flower. The people are iceskating on the frozen lake.

  136. Isabella Harte

I think it is in Holland and it is really cold so the river froze over. And the people are iceskating.

  137. Tia Martin

I think this is in the Netherlands. I think the windmills are used for power and I think the people are ice skating.

  138. Lucas

    1.It is in the Netherlands
    2. The windmills are for power

    3. The people are skating

  139. Lucy Benton

Where is this? Why are there so many windmills? What are the people doing

I think this picture of the people walking was taken on a river was that was frozen over as the plants on either side of the ice are the plants you see in mash land and at rivers like down at the lake in Blessington. I think the windmills could be generating energy, maybe this could be some sort of power dam.

  140. Carla

I think that it’s in Netherlands and that the people are ice skating the windmills are for when the lake in not frozen I think they make electricity and power the town or city in which it’s in.

  141. Luke

I think it is in the Netherlands. There was so many windmills to try stop flooding. They built 19 of them. The people are ice skating.

**Well done Luke, some day I will find a photo that you will really struggle to solve 🙂

  142. Amy

it is the titanic the people are workers. The year is 1912. They are at harland and wolff Belfast.

  143. Lucas

    1. A ship yard
    2. 1908
    3. They are making a huge chain for a anchor.

  144. Wayne Nolan

I think this photo is Belfast in 1911 and the men are working on building the titanic in the shipyard.

  145. kyle

1 I think they are making a anchor for a boat maybe the Titanic.
2 This would be Belfast if it is the Titanic, the company that made the Titanic was Harland and Wolff
3 if it is the Titanic 1912.

  146. Carla

I think that’s its from 1900s in Scotland and they are making a huge chain i am not sure what it’s for.

  147. Kyle Kinane

I think there crazy cat ladies

  148. Julianne

I think the cats are going to a show and the ladies are dressed very well for the show.
Or my other guess is they are waiting for a vaccine.

  149. Lucy Benton

I think this is a cat pageant and it is taken in the 1930’s in America.

  150. Luke

I think it’s in 1960s and the cats are lining up to be casted for a show that needs black cats.

**Wow Luke, you are good at these photos.

  151. Amy

I think that all the people look the same and the cats so i think that its a pitcher in a movie like with witches and cats. I think they might be moving into a house or something.

  152. Isabella Harte

I think it is a cat show but only for black cats and I think it is in maybe the 1950s.

  153. Lucas

I think it might be a cat show where the cats are judged on their appearance. It is a long time ago because of the ladies clothes.

  154. Lucas

It is a cat show I think where cats of the same breed are judged on their appearance

  155. Wayne Nolan

I think it might be something to do with witches and black cats.Is it america in 1950

  156. Tia Martin

I think the photo is taken in the 1950s and I think they might be queuing up for a photo shoot with their cats.

  157. Carla

I think the photo is taken in the 1960s and I think they might be having a race for the cats.

**Good Carla but that’s not correct. Keep guessing.

  158. Niamh 💙

I think it is in the 1940 and they are waiting maybe for a cat/dog vet

  159. Julianne

Is it a pretend shark used when making a movie , maybe Jaws?

  160. Lucas

It is a robotic shark that was used in the movie called JAWS

  161. Tia Martin

I think this is a mechanical sharked. Maybe used to make the Jaws movies. The first Jaws movie was made in 1975.

  162. Tia Martin

I think that this is a mechanical shark used to make the movie Jaws. The first Jaws movie was made in 1975.

  163. Wayne Nolan

I think it is an electric shark for frighting away ships

  164. kyle

I think this is a mechanical shark used for Jaws. I think this is what jaws looks like without editing to it. I
think its a rubber shark not a real one.

  165. Lucy Benton

I think this is jaws because he is a Michelin meshen and it is from 1917

  166. Carla

I think that the shark is for making a movie maybe Jaws from around 1970.

**You may be right Carla, let’s see tomorrow.

  167. Luke

It is from the movie Jaws. It is a mechanical shark that was made for the movie in 1975.

  168. Luke

I think it’s Japan in 1950 and the people that are pushing are the workings and they have to push the people on before the doors close.

  169. kyle

I think there stopping people getting off the train

  170. Julianne

I think it is the 1950’s or 1960’s. Maybe people are trying to get out of city to be safe? I think it is somewhere in Asia.

**So you think people are evacuating the city Julianne and that’s why they are pushing people onto the train. That makes sense too. The answer will be revealed tomorrow morning.

  171. Wayne Nolan

They are train conductors pushing people in to the train to get more people on board. it is Japan or China. The year is in the 1950s

  172. Lucas

I think the people are pushing other people in to the train it is in America and the year is 1985

** You are correct Lucas, they are people people. However it is not America.

  173. Sophie Fagan

1.I think that it is a photo of a train and that the people that work they are trying to get as many people as they can on the train.
2.The year that I think it is is 1960s.
3.The counry that I think it is is Japan.

**Brilliant Sophie, I think you may be correct in all your answers.

  174. Lucy Benton

What is happening in this photo? What country is this? What year is it
I think this picture was taken in the 1950
this looks like kids closing the doors and pushing everyone onto the train before the doors were automatic.

  175. Amy

I think that it was in france i dont know that is juts a gusse. The people there i think there job it to open and close doors or maybe if the train broke down they would have to push the train.

**Good Amy, train pushers is not a bad thought either but maybe trains are too heavy to be pushed by humans.

  176. Tia Martin

I think that this is in China in the 1950’s at a railway station. The train is being packed to the brim full of people. The railway workers are helping to squash the passengers on to the train.

**Good Tia, it does look like they are squashing the people onto the train, isn’t that cruel?

  177. Isabella Harte

My guess is they are prisoners going to different countries and the people pushing them in are guards.

**Good Isabella. Pushing prisoners onto a train, I suppose you wouldn’t push ordinary civilians like that or would you?

  178. Niamh💙

I think that it’s where people had to close the doors on the train maybe or something like that

**Good Niamh, but I think these people are doing more than closing the doors.

  179. Carla

I think its in London around 1978 and that they are either pushing people onto the trains or closing the doors on the train so people cant jump in or out.

**Good Carla. Answer revealed tomorrow morning.

  180. Luke

I think they are doing school work and lessons by the radio

  181. Julianne

I think the children are listening to school work on the radio and doing homework. They did not have laptops or zoom then. Maybe they could’nt go to school then because of a virus too or many the war?

  182. Lucas

It is homeschooling they are listening to the radio’s lessons.

**Well done Lucas. It is just like now but the internet didn’t exist back then.

  183. kyle

I think they are homeschooling because maybe there was another pandemic back then

**Excellent Kyle, there possibly was a pandemic. Would you like to get your lessons off the radio? Do you prefer Zoom, email and Google Classroom to do your lessons?

  184. Amy

i think its how kids went to school in the olden days. I think they are learnig in a school or they are being homeschooled. I also think the the big thing in the back that a little boy whos head is beside i think it is a speacker or a radieo.

**Excellent Amy, they’re are being homeschooled just like now but no Zoom, email or Google Classroom existed then.

  185. Tia Martin

It looks like the kids in this photo are being taught by radio. they are Listing and learning.

**Brilliant Tia, Why are they getting their lessons by radio do you think?

  186. Lucy Benton

What is going on in this photo?
At first I thought it was a school from the old days when children of different ages were in the same class, but now when I looked at the furniture it looks like home school maybe because of a lock down from war times.

**Brilliant Lucy. Home school just like now? Instead of Covid, it is a war that is forcing them to homeschool.

  187. Carla

I think that they are at home doing school work because in the background you can see what looks like a sitting room.

**Can you think of why they are at home? Are they doing regular homework or if it is during the school day, why are they working at home?

  188. Niamh

I think that they are maybe at school 🏫 because they are reading and writing. Like what we do at school.

**It does look like they are at school but would a teacher let you listen to a radio in school?

  189. Luke

I think in the olden days they used the booths to listen to music

  190. Amy

I think they are at an Airport waiting for thier flight so they sit down and listen to music on those chairs thats my gusse.

**Very good Amy. That’s a really good analysis of the photo.

  191. Lucas

They are listening to music on old record players

  192. Carla

I think those thing the case are record players and there from about the end of 1800s. This was the Time that record players were invented and maybe those people are selling them on making them?

  193. Niamh💙

I think the photo of the day is: where the people in the seat things are listening to there own music. They are listening to their music from a record player. I know that it is a record player because my dad and I used it last week. We listened to record discs (we have loads)

  194. Wayne Nolan

I think they are listing to music on a gramaphone why are they all men?

**Yes, why are they all men. Remind me to ask this question tomorrow’s zoom Wayne.

  195. Lucy Benton

What is going on in the photo : I think this might be a place where the people in the photo listen to all types of new music as the box on the table look like they can play music from the old days.

  196. Julianne

I think it is Manhattan Island New York with Central Park in middle. It is very old photo as now there are lots of buildings there.

**Very good Julianne. Tomorrow’s video will reveal if you are correct.

  197. Lucy Benton

Where is this and when was the photo taken.

I think this photo was taken in the early 1900’s as it is a similar type of picture as the lady in the photo at the fault line yesterday. I think it is taken at an archaeology site were they are digging down to see an old village or city under the ground.

  198. Tia Martin

I think this picture was taken in the 1900s. It is a picture of a town surrounded by water.

  199. Lucas

It is Manhattan New York before it was big and the rectangle is central park my dad knew what it was and gave me hints.

  200. Carla

I think it was an old town and that an earthquake came and flooded it and broke everything there. I think its from the 1920s because it’s a black and white picture.

  201. kyle

i think its about 1940 and its CA. Usa

  202. Niamh

I think around the rectangle are houses and the rectangle is a park and it is about to get flooded by the ocean/ water.

  203. Luke

It is in manhattan in 1931

  204. Luke

Is it when the plates push against each other and then separate

  205. Lucy Benton

What is happening in this photo? When and Where was it taken?

Last week I watched a nature programme on Disney called the birth of Europe showing earth quakes and I think it’s a fault line in the ground after an earthquake. I think this picture was taken a long long time ago because the lady is wearing old cloths and handbags from maybe 1930s or before. It was taken on a mountain maybe the Alps.

**Great analysis of the photo Lucy.

  206. Lucas

It is a fissure in the earth and is long ago because of the old clothes and is in a hilly area and is above two plates

  207. Carla

I think its tectonic plates or an earthquake and I’m not so sure what time it’s from but the camera was invented because how else would they of taken the photo.

**Tectonic Plates, those are the words I was looking for. As we know, plates can collide but also plates can pull apart.

  208. Anonymous

i think someone bought half of her land im not to shure

    aoife kinsella

    **Interesting Aoife

  209. Tia Martin

The ground looks very broken up it’s probably the cause of an earth quake.

  210. Luke

It’s the ground rupture from the San Francisco earthquake in 190

**Wow Luke, you are good at these photos. Can you answer, why did the ground rupture. In Brainbuilders last week, we learned something that would explain it.

  211. Luke

The biscuit is worth £15000. It’s from spillers and bakers in America. I think its worth so much because it survived the sinking of the titanic.

  212. Lucy Benton

This is the worlds most expensive biscuit. How much is it worth, where is it from and why is it worth so much?

I think this biscuit is worth €6,000. I think it’s made in France or Italy because these counties are famous for baking breads and cakes. I think it has either very expensive ingredients or Saller and Baker were famous bakers a long time ago and this is a biscuit from a long time ago maybe even the first ever biscuit made.

  213. Wayne Nolan

I think it is worth 500,000, Maybe it is from England, i think it’s so expensive because of the ingredients used to make it.

  214. Carla

I think its from the Titanic and it’s very old and expensive. I think its from around 1912 this is the date of the Titanic sinking and that’s how old it is.

  215. kyle

i have heard of the brand and they made a biscuit that survived the titanic.

  216. Wayne Nolan

He is listening for a storm or rain

  217. Wayne Nolan

He is listening for a storm

  218. Kyle

I think its something to do with the civil war

  219. Lucas

The machine is a listening device for war planes and mabye bombs

  220. Carla

I think it’s an earthquake monitor. I don’t really know what times its from.

  221. Tia Martin

I’m not sure I think it is an instrument used for recording sound.

  222. Anonymous

im not to shure about this one
    aoife kinsella

  223. Lucy Benton

I think they use this to listen to the weather before we had satellites up in the sky.

  224. Luke

I think it was used in the world war so they could listen and track when their enemies were coming. Made sound louder.

**Brilliant Luke. Do you think they are used today?

  225. Wayne Nolan

i think this suit was used in a war country. was this suit used as punishment

  226. Lucy Benton

What is this and in what country was it used?

ans; I think it is from russia

ans; I think it is call the spike man and it is armour worn in battle

**Russia is an excellent guess Lucy

  227. Anonymous

i think prisoners used to wear this
    aoife kinsella

**Interesting Aoife, how was it useful to prisoners?

  228. Carla Murphy

I think it is an Isolator from Russia. I’m not sure what time it was used and made but if it not an Isolator then i think it was from a war maybe?

  229. Tia Martin

I think this was used in Rusha in 1986.

**You are correct saying Russia Tia, but who would have used it?

  230. Isabella Harte

Was it last used in Sweden??

**My sources say it wasn’t used in Sweden Isabella.

  231. Lucas

I think it’s spike man and it’s a torture device used by Germany for the war (first thing that came to mind)

**Torture device, sounds horrible. I will reveal in tomorrows video.

  232. Luke

I think it is a bear hunting suit and used in Germany or Switzerland or maybe both.

**Bear hunting suit, that makes sense. What bear would bite a person with those spikes.

  233. Tia Martin

This is a beautiful picture of a village. My guess is Austria.

  234. Luke

I think it’s howth head looking across to Wales.

**Excellent Luke, all will be revealed in tomorrow’s video.

  235. Amy

Are the mountains the black mountain in wales?

**You are correct by saying Wales Amy but they are not the Black Mountains.

  236. kyle

    it is howth

    **We will see tomorrow Kyle

  237. Isabella Harte

I think it is in Howth in Ireland and the snowy mountains are in Wales and it was took last week.

**Brilliant Isabella, so it is possible to see Wales from Ireland. What are the name of those mountains?

  238. Wayne Nolan

This photo was taken in Howth last week, of the Snowden mountains in Wales. Me and my mam seen this photo the other day.

**Good Wayne, I never know it was possible to see Wales from Ireland until I seen this photo.

  239. Carla Murphy

I think its modern day because I see cars in the photo and the houses look pretty nice and not that old. I’m not that sure where it is but maybe somewhere in Dublin or America.

**Dublin is a good guess Carla and the mountains are in a different country.

  240. Lucy Benton

At first I was thinking that it was Blessington lake looking at the mountains but the water looks very different to Blessington lake maybe it is a bigger lake or sea looking across at mountains covered in snow on them. I think its a modern day town because the houses have solar panels on roofs. I think it was taken at the end of winter or start of spring because there is snow on the mountains but not on the towns on lower ground.

**Excellent deduction skills Lucy, the solar panels tells us that it is a modern photo. Would you believe the mountains in the photo are in a different country.

  241. Kyle Kinane

    It’s Nepal

    **Good guess Kyle, but incorrect.

  242. Kyle

I think it’s poo because they had no plumbing and no toilet

  243. Luke

I think horses were not used as much because cars became more popular.

**Very good Luke, all will be revealed in tomorrow’s video.

  244. Anonymous

i think the big probolm is that there is so much big rocks and stones im not to shure about this one

    aoife kinsella

**Good Aoife, it is a tricky one alright. The street surface is really different to now, that’s for sure.

  245. Lucy Benton

I think this is Dublin city centre back in the 1885. I think that it is poop on the streets that each house had to throw out their poop buckets onto the street. The invention that stopped this problem is a TOILET!!

**Very interesting Lucy, you have put great thought into your answer. I will reveal if you are correct in tomorrow’s video.

  246. Tia Martin

This could be any city but I think it is Dublin city many years ago.
The problem is proper roads have not been built so cars and bikes might find it hard to pass.

**True Tia, the roads are of poor quality but these roads didn’t affect cars. I will let you know more tomorrow.

  247. Wayne Nolan

It looks like Russia or America. I think it is snow before the snowplough

**Interesting Wayne, it does look a little like snow. What year do you think it is?

  248. Lucas

I think it is in a city and the roads were very dirty because road sweepers weren’t a thing

**very good Lucas, can you think of why the roads were so dirty?

  249. Carla Murphy

I think that it is horse poop on the streets. With lots of horses on the streets this would have been a problem before cars were invented.

  250. Luke

The photo is of New York and the streets are covered in Manure. It’s from the 1800’s. They had no sewage so the streets got blocked.

**Excellent Luke, what was invented soon after this photo that eliminated this problem?

  251. Julianne

It is a photo from long ago. I think the children’s job is to sell newspaper to get money.

**Excellent Julianne, It was an important job selling newspapers. I will tell you more about the photo in tomorrow’s video.

  252. Skye

It is a group of kids out selling news papers. This is a important job because back in the olden days there was no internet so people needed news papers to know what was happing all around the world.

**Excellent Skye, Yes newspapers were very important as for many there was few other means of getting the news.

  253. Aoife

i think they were delivering newspapers to everyone because that was their job and it was inportant because people didnt whatch the news on tv they would it in the news paper
    Aoife kinsella

** Interesting Aoife, why do you think it was important that people got their news from the paper than from TV?

  254. Isabella Harte

I think the kids in the photo are delivering newspapers to get money to help pay bills and different stuff.
And I do think it is a important job.

**Thanks Isabella, Yes a very important job. There was no other way to get news back then not like today.

  255. Tadhg

I think they are newspaper people like who goes in the morning and deliver the newspapers

**Good Tadhg, that’s correct. it was a really important job years ago. Newspapers are not as popular today though, can you think why?

  256. Lucy Benton

I think they get paid to deliver newspapers to adults so they can earn money to give to their parents to buy food and clothes. They look like they are very tired and they must work very hard and long hours.

**Well done Lucy, they do look tired as they work very hard. As a result these boys and girls did something. I will reveal it in tomorrow’s video.

  257. Kyle

I don’t know it just looks like a strike and newspaper boys are there.

**Good Kyle, I will reveal all in tomorrow video.

  258. Kyle

it is a news paper boy strike

**Well done Kyle. A strike Kyle, why would the children be striking? Was their job that important that they could go on strike?

  259. Carla

I think they are working and their job is delivering newspapers to people?

**Good Carla, all will be revealed in tomorrow’s video.

  260. Wayne Nolan

I think they are delivering newspapers. Yes I think it is a important job. They are standing for a photo.

**Would you like to work at this job? How do most people get their news today?

  261. Lucas

I think that they are delivery boys and girls delivering newspaper

**How do we receive most of our news today Lucas? Do you think there are more or less newspapers today?

  262. Tia Martin

No you don’t see this any more because we can go to the shop and buy our news papers.

  263. Luke

I think the children are delivering newspapers to people. It’s a job for the boys and girls to do to earn some money.

  264. Tia Martin

I think that the kids are walking around the streets giving people their daily news paper.

  265. Tia Martin

I think the kids are delivering news papers to people.

**I think you mght be right Tia, do we see this still happen today? If not Why so?

  266. Lucy Benton

I dont think they are the same place as one has a river on the right and the other does not. They are taken 30 years apart but I think it is in New York city.

  267. Anonymous

I think that they are not the same place
i think one is new York

  268. Isabella Harte

I think it is Dubai 30 years ago and how it looks now.

  269. Wayne Nolan

I think the first is Dubai before they built it up. we learned about that tallest building in the world being here. I flew into the airport when I was going to Australia

  270. Kyle

    It is Dubai

  271. admin

Excellent Lucas, Las Vegas is built on a desert. I will reveal if you are correct tomorrow.

  272. admin

Good Amy. The 2020 photo does look like New York City. If you get a chance, look up a picture of New York City in 1990 and see if you are correct.

  273. admin

Very good Carla. If it it the same place can you think of how it could be built up so quickly?

  274. Lucas

It is las Vegas a city built in the desert (my mummy and daddy went in 1997)
((It was built by criminals to gamble))

  275. admin

I will reveal the answer in tomorrow’s video Aoife.

  276. Amy

they look like the same place but the frist one is from thirty years ago. the pitcher in 1990 looks like dessert. my gusses is new york city then and now

  277. Carla

I think it’s the same place that has been built up over a lot of years. The first picture looks like it is taken in the desert so I think maybe it is Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

  278. Anonymous

I actually think back then they didnt have much money so it didnt look the best maybe. I think it is the same place . I dont know where this place is
    Aoife Kinsella

  279. Anonymous

i have no clue at all
    Aoife kinsella

  280. Tia Martin

I think that they are the same place but the first one is thirty years previous. The first one is mainly desert and the second one is a built up city. My guess is Dubai.
