Little Boy and Enola Gay

Who were the 2 sides in WWII?

Germany and Italy were looking to take over all of Europe and Japan was looking to take over many parts of Asia.

In 1942, Germany had taken almost all of Europe and Britain were struggling. America then joined the Allies.

During the war both sides kept improving their artillery and bombs. They both were trying to invent the atomic bomb. It was extremely difficult to build though.

They formed a group of scientists to build it and they called the project – THE MANHATTAN PROJECT

In July 1945, they did it but they first had to test it before dropping it on the enemy. They tested it in the New Mexico desert.

By the time the Atomic Bomb was invented, Germany had been defeated Europe but Japan remained in the war . Dropping this bomb could make Japan surrender.

They now had a bomb and they had to pick a Japanese city to drop it on. They chose Hiroshima. They had purposely not attacked Hiroshima before this because they wanted to see how much damage the bomb would cause.

The bomb was called Little Boy and it was carried in the plane Enola Gay. The pilot was Paul Tibbots.

A person on board the plane had the job of releasing the the bomb at the correct moment. They would pick a target on the ground and try to release it on top of that. When dropping the bomb, he aimed for the T Bridge.

You should have stayed at home yesterday
Ah-ha, words can’t describe
The feeling and the way you liedThese games you play
They’re going to end in more than tears some day
Ah-ha Enola Gay
It shouldn’t ever have to end this wayIt’s 8:15
And that’s the time that it’s always been
We got your message on the radio
Conditions normal, and you’re coming homeEnola Gay
Is mother proud of little boy today?
Ah-ha this kiss you give
It’s never ever gonna to fade awayEnola Gay
You shouldn’t ever have to live this way
Ah-ha Enola Gay
You should’ve faded our dreams awayIt’s 8:15
And that’s the time that it’s always been
We got your message on the radio
Conditions normal, and you’re coming home
