Sick Santa by Barry

Year after year, Santa travels around the world and visits all the countries in the entire world but this year was different.  Santa was sick and wasn’t well enough to work at Christmas.  As Mrs Claus made Santa hot chocolate, she said “I don’t think Christmas can go ahead this year”.  But little did she know that the little ears of a sleeping dog heard her speaking.

The dog’s name was Tucker, a golden retriever.  Tucker was Santa’s dog and he had an amazing idea to save Christmas.  So he put on his dog coat and his dog translation collar and off he went looking for the elves to help him save Christmas.

He clawed at doors of the elves bedrooms until the elves answered.  The elf that answered was Tinsel.  She had a large pointy hat and bells on the tip of his shoes.  Tucker said, “Santa is sick and we have to save CHRISTMAS!”  Tinsel said “Tucker, your collar is glitching”.  Tinsel took it off him and started to fix it.  He knew all the steps as he was a professional electronic toy maker.  After a while, the collar was fully fixed and ready to be used.  He put it back on Tuckers neck.  “So” Tinsel said, “what were you saying Tucker?”  Tucker responded, “Santa is sick and we have to save Christmas and it is Christmas Eve, so hurry”.

As Tinsel rushed to get his scarf, Tucker waited in his dog bed, slowly drifting off while Tinsel was recruiting the other elves.  Three elves arrived at Tucker’s bed with Tinsel.  Tinsel said “Tucker, meet Molly, Buddy and Happy”.  We all want to help

Tucker jumped up and ran to the sleigh as fast has he could.  But little did he know that Buddy had some eggnog and he was directing the sleigh around in circles.  Tinsel took control and drove the sleigh to the first city, but the elves had a problem.  Elves cannot enter houses, its an elf rule.  Tucker had to do it.  He jumped through an open window in the first house with a sack of presents.  He emptied them out under the Christmas tree and did this in every house in every country they visited.

When they were in Australia, they were delivering in Sydney but there was a child awake and she thought Tucker was a present from Santa.  The elves were waiting on Tucker to come back out of the house.  There was no sign of him.  Tinsel had to break elf rules and went into the house to see where he was and what was taking him so long to deliver presents.

What a surprise Tinsel got.  The little girl has already dressed poor Tucker in a Christmas outfit.  The girl had gone back to sleep so Tinsel sprinkled magic dust around her so she wouldn’t remember Tucker ever being there.  Tinsel grabbed Tucker and flew back out and onto the sleigh.  The other elves decided to break the rules too and started delivering presents into houses.  Now Tucker and Tinsel had to find them, what a mess!

The flitted from house to house until they delivered all the presents and finally caught up with the other elves.  Tucker was working at lightening speed.  Tinsel soon found out why.  He had been eating all the sweets that the children had left for Santa and was full of sugar.  Swiftly they flew, high in the sky and low to the ground as fast as they could until they had delivered all the presents from the sleigh.

They eventually returned to the North Pole where Mrs Claus was waiting for them and gave Tucker the biggest dog bone he had ever seen.

He was very happy, just like all the children.  He had saved Christmas.  “That was fun” said Tucker to Tinsel, “Maybe I’ll do this every year”.
