Th beautiful country of Namibia is in the South West of Africa. Today we will talk about The Namib Desert and The Skeleton Coast.
The Namib Desert has sand dunes as high as 400 meters. What do think causes sand dunes to be formed?
It is the driest desert in Africa, large quantities of diamonds are mined there and it is one of the most beautiful deserts in the world if seen from the air.
The coastline along the Namib Desert is known as the Skeleton Coast? Why do you think it is called so?
There used to be a large whaling industry in the oceans of Namibia and many bones washed up on shore. Also the ocean is very dangerous there. Dense fog and strong currents is common and many ships have run aground.
If you were lucky enough to survive the shipwreck, then you had over 1000 miles of desert to walk through to find shelter.
