Below is Javier Sotomayer, he is from Cuba. In 1993 he set a high jump world record. Look at my wall and guess which of these heights he jumped.

The foam landing area was just approved before the Mexico Olympics in 1968. This also allowed Dick Fosbury to use the Fosbury Flop. In cases where there is no foam, the straddle of scissors jump must be used.
