The Mariana Trench is 11km deep, Mount Everest is 8.9km high.

The deepest part of the trench is known as Challenger Deep. It was discovered in 1875 by the HMS Challenger . They used weighted ropes to measure the depth.

How many scuba divers have been to the bottom of the Mariana?

No Scuba Divers could survive down there. The deepest any scuba diver has gone down is 300 m. Legally, they are only allowed to dive to a depth of 40 meters.

Standing at the bottom of the Mariana Trench is the same as the weight of the bus pushing against all parts of you.

That’s why we see mainly flat fish deep in the ocean.

You can say it is the closest any human has gone to the earth’s Core.
